The Life Navigation Approach

A skills-based approach to navigating health, change, and life transitions with clarity and steadiness.

Life navigation is an approach to coaching that supports people when life no longer fits the map they were using — whether due to health changes, cancer, aging, caregiving, or other major transitions.

Rather than fixing problems or pushing outcomes, this approach builds capacity: helping people orient themselves, strengthen self-trust, and take realistic next steps in real life.

What the Life Navigation Approach Is

The life navigation approach to coaching is a collaborative, skills-based process that helps people:

  • make sense of where they are now

  • clarify what matters most in this phase of life

  • develop practical skills for navigating uncertainty and change

  • translate insight into sustainable action

The work is grounded, reflective, and pragmatic.

It adapts to fluctuating energy, shifting priorities, and the realities of living with uncertainty.

This is not coaching that pushes people toward an idealized future.

It supports people in living well where they are, while moving forward intentionally.

Who the Life Navigation Approach Supports

Coaching based in life navigation skills may be helpful if you are:

  • navigating cancer survivorship or living with ongoing cancer

  • supporting someone else as a caregiver

  • experiencing health changes or intentional aging

  • facing a major life transition or identity shift

  • feeling disoriented, stuck, or unsure how to move forward

  • wanting support that respects pace, complexity, and capacity

You do not need to be in crisis.

You do not need to have clear goals yet.

How Coaching Works With This Approach

Coaching sessions are conversational, reflective, and practical.

Together, we work to:

  • orient to your current situation

  • identify priorities that feel realistic and meaningful

  • explore what supports or interferes with follow-through

  • build skills you can carry into daily life

The coach does not provide answers or prescriptions.

Instead, coaching helps you navigate decisions, uncertainty, and change with greater confidence.

Skills Developed Through Life Navigation Coaching

Life navigation coaching focuses on developing skills that support long-term wellbeing, including:

  • working with fear, uncertainty, and emotional load

  • clarifying values and priorities

  • setting realistic, adaptive goals

  • sustaining change over time

  • communicating needs and boundaries

  • adjusting plans when life shifts

These skills are transferable, and they support not just one decision or challenge, but future ones as well.
